PHARMACEUTICAL PROPERTIES
Amoxicillin, the active ingredient of ATLAMOX 70%, is an antibiotic from the group of amino-penicillins widely used in veterinary medicine. Amoxicillin is endowed with bactericidal effects against many pathogenic germs in the target species. It has excellent pharmacokinetic properties: resistance to digestive acid pH, good digestive absorption, and good tissue diffusion. The plasma half-life of amoxicillin is relatively short, resulting in a relatively short withdrawal period.
TARGET SPECIES
Poultry (hen) and non-ruminant calves.
INDICATIONS
Treatment of infections caused by germs sensitive to amoxicillin.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
ATLAMOX 70% is administered orally.
- Poultry: 20 mg of ATLAMOX 70% per kg BW per day for 5 days. To be administered in the water of
beverage.
- Calves: 15 mg of ATLAMOX 70% per kg BW, twice a day, for 4 to 5 days in the drinking water or in milk.
It is possible to calculate with the following formula the total quantity of ATLAMOX 70% which is necessary for the treatment of the whole group per day:
ATLAMOX 70% dose (mg/kg) * Mean body weight (kg) x Number of animals/1000 = grams needed/day.
The calculated total daily dose must first be mixed with more or less 10 liters of drinking water.
Then, add to a quantity of water that will be drunk completely by the poultry in 2 hours (up to 12 hours maximum). For the rest of the day, it is necessary to provide non-medicated water. Unused medical water must be renewed after 12 noon.
The dose of ATLAMOX 70% necessary for the treatment of a group of 1000 subjects according to age:
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND INTERACTIONS
- Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to penicillins and cephalosporins.
Do not use in animals suffering from severe renal insufficiency associated with anuria or oliguria.
Do not use in ruminants, horses, lagomorphs, and rodents such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and gerbils.
Do not administer at the same time as mainly bacteriostatic antibiotics (e.g.tetracyclines, macrolides) (possibility of antagonism).
'There is no evidence that amoxicillin would cause teratogenic effects, nor that reproduction would be negatively influenced. Can be used during pregnancy and lactation. Do not use in laying hens whose eggs are intended for human consumption.
SIDE EFFECTS
Allergic reactions may
occur rarely. Gastrointestinal side effects (diarrhea) may occur.
PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
Precautions for use in animals:
- Water installations (tanks, pipes, nipples, etc.) should be suitably cleaned after discontinuation of the medication.
- The selection of antimicrobial resistance evolves in certain pathogenic micro-organisms; use of the product should be based on sensitivity testing (antibiogram).
- The use of the product without following the indicated instructions may increase the presence of bacteria that are resistant to amoxicillin, reduce the effectiveness of treatment with other beta-lactams, due to the possibility of crossresistance.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the medicinal product:
- Penicillins and cephalosporins can cause hypersensitivity (allergy) after injection, inhalation, oral intake, or skin contact. Hypersensitivity to penicillins may lead to a reaction crossed with cephalosporins and vice versa. Allergic reactions to these products can occasionally be serious.
Do not use this product in case of known hypersensitivity, or if you have been advised not to use this product.
Be careful during use and consider the recommended precautions to avoid exposure to the product.
If after exposure to the product, symptoms such as skin rashes appear, consult a doctor and demonstrate this precaution. Swelling of the face, lips, or eyelids, or labored breathing, are more serious symptoms that require urgent medical attention.
- Wash hands after use.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling the product.
